Currently it is difficult to clearly configure an Insteon scene button to perform an off function on a given set of lights. The Power Home software can be configured to set the dim level to 0, but even then the software shows the light as being on with a dim level of 0%. There are many instances when you would like to configure buttons in an off mode such as “away”. The manual set up for this is confusing at best. It would be very helpful to have the ability to configure “off” scenes using Power Home.

Correct me if Im wrong, but only the KeypadLinc supports setting buttons to always send an "off" command, correct?

Ive been working with the KPL a lot the past couple of days and am trying to enhance PowerHome to support more of it's features, but it is turning out to be difficult at best. A lot of the advanced features seem to only be available manually or if I do poke the values directly into memory, don't take effect until the KPL is reset by pulling the "set" button out temporarily. On a positive note, I do have the Create/Edit window now allowing you to program KPL secondary buttons to themselves.

The best way Ive found to program a secondary button in the KPL to be an "off" scene is to add the links as normal with the KPL secondary button as the controller. Also add a link to another switch (can be the KPL in the next beta) with the other switch being the master and the secondary KPL button being the responder. Place the secondary KPL button in non-toggle mode by pressing and holding the secondary button for 10 seconds (until it blinks), let up and press again for 5 seconds (until it blinks), let up and press again for 5 seconds (until it blinks). Then use the other switch you linked the secondary button as a slave to and send an "off" command. Unlink the other switch (master) and secondary KPL button (slave). The KPL should now always send an "off" command to the devices it's been linked to.

Im trying to come up with a way to do this programmatically. One of the big hurdles is that SmartHome has not yet released a memory map of the KPL that shows us the memory locations to place a button in non-toggle mode and/or the memory location associated with whether a non-toggle button is "on" or "off". This has been asked for a couple of times and were still waiting to hear back .

I'll keep plugging away though and who knows, I may get lucky and get it figured out.
