I'm trying to get my USB UIRT to work...it's been sitting
around in a drawer for a while and it's time to make this
baby work.
My plan was to had a random device to my harmony and use
the codes from that to control PH to set lighting scenes.
I've got the UIRT installed, and PH recognizes incoming
IR in the logs, but I can't figure out how to program the
buttons on a remote under devices.
So far I've created a device under "Devices\IR" with a
bunch of buttons. When I try to use "Record" or "Auto
Learn" I get the following error:
"A timeout occurred on USB-UIRT controller UIRT while
waiting for the IR code to be learned"
For what it's worth, pressing buttons makes the red light
on the UIRT illuminate UNLESS it's in that period after
clicking "Record" but before the error appears. So, to
me it looks like PH is trying to talk to the device and
it's not working.
UIRT info: Firmware: 5.9, Protocol Supported: 1.1,
Firmware Date: 2004-3-26, API Version 256.
Thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Does it work when using Irnhelper? If that works then PH should read it as well. Another thing I found out distance is critical.

Edited...
Ah, Magic of the tubes. I was able to track down
lrmhelper (only ver 5 worked for me) and determine that I
needed to be just mm away from it for the learn to work.
That established I was able to get PH to learn.
Thanks much for the little push in the right direction
that I needed.
Also, for those of you with Harmony remotes, what are you
using as a device to control lights?
Thanks again!

I also found that you have to have the remote about one
inch away to learn new IR commands into PH.
As for what device to use, I used an old remote for a piece
of equipment that I no longer have. Then I added that
device into the Harmony and renamed it "Lighting". Learn
the commands into PH and you are good to go.

Well, I got it all working.
As for the device I used, rather than use an old remote, I
just told added the Smarthome 2411R to the Harmony devices.
Since it's already got codes for that (and even calls it a
lighting controller) I just assigned that to the buttons I
wanted and then had the UIRT learn from there. It's
exactly what I wanted.
Thanks for your help.

So I seem to have it working now, but I see 2 inputs in the
log for every button press on the remote. Am I doing
something crazy or is there some timing issue at play here
that I can adjust?

You may need to adjust how long you hold the button. Either that or the device is blasting to events in (like motion sensors and remotes). In that case, you need to disable the trigger, wait a reasonable amount of time and reenable the trigger.
