While I use sunrise/dawn variables in several morning
timed events to turn lights on and off, I have recently
decided that it's lacking any control for how bright it
actually is outside.

On a recent morning when the lights didn't turn on (as
defined by my timed events) I found myself wishing it had
because it was severely overcast outside. PH functioned
perfectly, it's just that I wanted there to be a way to
let PH know that it was still dark outside, so turn on
the lights!

Does anyone know of any weather forecast-type websites
that report something like 'ambient light'? It's easy
enough to find 'cloud' reports, but that doesn't quite do
it.

Has anyone gone beyond just triggering on dawn/sunrise
and found a way to include the actual 'brightness' of the
outside world into PH?

I personally use the Insteon Motion Sensor Group 2 trigger for the over-ride. Placing in the ideal location for this function and for motion also is a challenge.

I have two of the EZEye devices which work well. It has a digital On/Off output that is adjustable with a pot contained in the EZEye. It also has an analog output that is provides a voltage range over dark to light. Either should provide what you are looking for.

For the record, and for those who are not yet into insteon, I use the good ol' PR511 from x10.

it does the motion sensing thing and the light sensing thing too. enough for me.
