I have hit a new and unexpected hiccup this morning that has me buffaloed!

I have an 8-button KPL with just over 50 link records in it. When I attempt to drag/drop a new link onto it in the PH Explorer "Links" tab nothing happens.

I get a standard "OK" icon (the Clipboard) with the drag, but after dropping a device into either the Controllers or Responders window there is no result. The new entry does not appear and I can thus not establish a link. If I go to the device instead and try to drop the KPL on it, the same thing happens.

I have re-initialized PH and excuted the Scan DB function in the Devices tab for all the affected devices, but to no avail.

Am I hitting a link limit in this KPL (I think there were 51 links when I last did a Scan DB) or am I missing something here?

It is not a KeypadLinc limit. The device supports 400+ link records. Sounds like a PH issue with the GUI or underlying Powerbuilder but I have nothing objective to back that up. Definitely not a KPL limitation.

Could try creating the new link with the KPL Set button which will honor all active link records in the KPL regardless of how they were created. Then pull the KPL link database back into PH and see if the new link shows up in the GUI display.

I ran into something similar a few days ago. Has any device been automatically disabled due to communication problems? (Devices tab)

That was an excellent suggestion, and should be the first place one looks in these kinds of situations.

Unfortunately that is not the source of my issue, but it was the first thought I had too.

I have emailed Dave about it, since he can login to my system with remote access. I suspect it make take some poking around to find the issue, as I have tried everything I can think of, without any success, so am assuming it might be a GUI bug.

David responded to this issue with enormous insight (as always). His suggestion was right-on and solved my problem, which was that I had inadvertantly checked the ControlLinc flag on one of the KPL Type definitions

Dave's insights were . . .

Dave Howard wrote:
If the Insteon device type for the KeypadLinc has been modified so that the Controller groups are less than 1 then you will not be able to add any new responders to the KPL. If the device you're trying to add has had its Insteon type changed so that its controller groups are less than 1, then you won't be able to add this device as a controller of the KPL.

A similar situation exists concerning the ControlLinc flag in the Insteon types. If the KPL insteon type has somehow had the ControlLinc flag set, then you cannot add any controllers to the KPL. If the device you're trying to add has had the ControlLinc flag set, then you won't be able to add this device as a responder to the KPL.
