This was posted on CocoonTech...

Quote:
The Fusion Brain allows for 12 on/off outputs, 4 on/off inputs, and 10 analog sensor inputs. The free Fusion Control Centre software from the software section interacts with the board to create the possibility of animated outputs, and graphical input displays. Ships with the board and power jack. Requires unregulated 12vDC supply - can be connected straight to car battery, or to regulated 12v source. Can withstand power fluctations from 7v to 17v on the input.

Only $50!

Wow there is some fun stuff here - led and ultrasonic range finders, accelatometers (sp?), etc. all seems pretty reasonable priced as well.

Looks like another plug in for someone to write...

Sweet find!
Just ordered one with a whiole bunch of sensors. I was planning on ordering a Simplehomenet EZIO controller, but this thing has way more IO ports and is way cheaper.

Oh Dave, how about some native PH support?

I think the only thing better would be if this unit was one-wire or TCP/IP compatible.

Yeah, I already have my investment in the one-wire board / sensors (I'm wondering if I might be able to use some of the fusion brain sensors with my IOM142 and a 1-wire DS2450)

From a home automation view I can see a lot of uses for the range finders. I'd really like my wall screen to wake up when someone is just near it...

I've got some ideas for this board and sensors as well. I was already planning on putting a bunch of tablet pcs in walls. Now if I hook one of these up to the tablet for each room I can get one step closer to an "intelligent" home.

I just thought of something else Tony. Since this thing can have ten sensor inputs it would probably be easy to use this for our occupancy systems than jerry rigging the security sensors and there would be no batteries to worry about. Just have to run the wires for two ir distance sensors and configure it to send the appropriate signals.

Hmm. I don't yet have a system there, but that can be fixed. I must ponder this.

My long term idea on this is to have a touchscreen for each room, probably a small one about 8". Have one of these on each of them and wire up the room with sensors. Then I can set it for monitoring/controlling each room for lights, a/v intercoms and environmental controls. :D (maybe I've watched too much star trek!)

Guerrand,
I was thinking along the same lines as using the IR sensors as general occupancy sensors as well. Probably not for lighting, but for HVAC control.

Anxiously awaiting my brain!!!

Nice thing is with PowerHome, you could do both at the same time. Since your plan is for HVAC you might as well throw in some temp sensors.

I'm not sure if the IR distance sensors would respond quickly enough for sensing people walking by, but I'll submit the question to Fusion.

Yes, using the temp sensors is a given. :)
They have IR and Ultrasonic sensors. I think the Ultrasonic ones will be fine for general occupany. People will be sitting and moving around in the room. I'm not looking for just someone passing by. At least not for this specific application.

If you train the ultrasonic sensor on a specific place that a person will be, it should work fine.

I thought about and tried many ways to sense occupancy and settled on counting bodies in and out. Very accurate.

Another good way would be to use the Pulsor sensors for monitoring weight on floor joists.

I got a response from Fusion...

Quote:
Response is pretty fast, probably <2 seconds, but it may not do well in moving applications due to reflections of the IR light

Moving on...

Hey guys,

I responded to that question about movement without knowing the intended application, so it was difficult to answer.

The IR sensor is probably capable of what you guys are trying to do, but the ultrasonic sensor might be better suited.

Alternatively, you can hook up your own sensors or light-beams.

Let us know if you have any other questions.

I'm not sure the ultrasonic would be suitable. Unless it could be restricted to only view along one, relatively narrow, axis. If it can be partially obscured and still function correctly then it may be perfect.

I guess the key capability would be the ability to sequentially distinguish the inputs. Sounds like the response time might be reasonable.

I guess I'm just gonna have to get a bunch of bits and start experimenting. I do so love new toys.

{edit}
Just thought of something, with this I should be able to embed the sensors in the door frame so that it is invisible.

Tim,

Thanks for posting here. Yeah, I guess I may have blind-sided you with that.

Ignoring the IR sensor app, this seems to have a couple other uses for us.

I'm getting all kinds of ideas for things this board + sensors could possibly be used to set up. I can see this being used by someone with too much time to set up automatic doors ala Star Trek. Just have it set to only open on a decending distance reading, like someone approaching. Bonus points awarded for a pocket door. hehe
