Hello!
I just tested a new nice hardware from Belkin (F5L009), its a 5 port USB hub that connects to an LAN, and a software installed at the PC's to connect to USB devices as they were localy connected. The cost is less than 100 Euro
I have tested the following devices without problems:
Memorysticks
Harddrive
D-link bluetooth stick
Controllable power outlet, 4 socket (Gembird SIS-PM)
Velleman K8055
Noname soundcard (recording not tested)
GPS
The only thing that didn't work was the MCE IR remote receiver/blaster.
The network hub runs Linux inside and have an telnet connection enabled, it also have an internal webserver for status and settings.
I bought the device for my work, but I will probably by them for private use also...

Wow. Nice find! Looks like several places have them.
Another 100 Euro/100 US dollar product. Good for us; the exchange rate is not great right now.

Yes, the exchange rate is to bad...
I forget some other info, I tried this setup:
Laptop (streaming music) -> wireless -> WRT54GS(main router) -> wireless -> WRT54GS(setup as wireless bridge) -> LAN to Belkin USB hub.
Streaming FLAC at a rate of 1.5 - 2 MBit/s, without any interruptions.
The Linksys routers (WRT54GS) are running DD-WRT (v24) firmware that lets you connect wired equipment at both routers on the same subnet.

Along the same lines, I just got a mailing from Surplus Computers with a device that will let you extend a USB connection up to 150ft. over cat 5 for $29.95.
USB Extender
