system : win 10 pro
my system with PLM 2413U was running fine since win 10
upgrade for almost a year ago.
for past few weeks its losing communication with PLM
an errors out only in PH. it could take few hours and
then you see the error some time PH can over come.

if PH eliminates the controller and you re-initialize
PH it will start working again.

what I have done:
make sure no power saving.
make sure updated drivers.
swap the system with same hard-drive- same problem
(so eliminate the USB could be bad)
swap the PLM same problem.
use different outlet of PLM
use my backup copy of database which was know to be
working.

any time PH has communication error device manager
still shows PLM connected.

Not sure but window 10 had some updates in last few
weeks - may be that cause this to fail.

I still have to try few other things like I have 2413S
which is serial version - (I did not had the extra
serial available on this computer just got the extra
port so will try that.)

need to find my old build of win 7 or XP to eliminate
windows 10 issue . ( I know win 10 has change the way
permission of App work thru registry edit)

Not sure anyone had similar problem.

Nick

so after so many different try - seems like its a
noise issue.

I found that if PLM is plug into current outlet I get
communication error and eventually PLM will lock .
if plug into little away (with short extension cord)
outlet few errors.
long extension power cord from different room - no
error.

I found that next bed room had a bed light with
transformer which we had for 4 years and no problem
since that time. I unplug that for a 24 hours and no
error for now.

I know transformer can go bad and create noise even
the lights are working.

My situation was hard to find since it would take many
hours before it start to fail and can start working by
re-initializing PH.

Thanks for posting your follow up.

Those sporadic, non-repeatable problems are really hard to track down, glad you found it!

I am still battling a situation where I see the controller lose PH connectivity when I have lots of Insteon lights on/dimmed (like when we are having a house party).

I am still looking for a good "Insteon stress test" to see if I can make this very non-frequent thing repeatable; and then hopefully "fixable".

Nick,

Ive had occasional instances of this as well. Everything is working fine and then suddenly, I cant seem to control anything Insteon. Im using an
original hub right now as my controller and earlier I was using the Insteon PLM stick so never saw the controller errors.

Most of the time for me, it was a failed Insteon switch itself. The switch could still work, etc. but was just generating a ton of noise or bad
signals. I usually have to locate them by switching off breakers (to narrow it down). But once I find it, I replace the switch and all is good
again.

Glad you were able to find the problem though. These types of errors are very frustrating.

Dave.
