I've been scouring EBay for an upgrade for my PH computer which is a 200MHz P2.
There are literally thousands of computers out there, but the vendors I've tried to communicate with have been a little (make that a lot) surly.
I don't mind taking a chance on losing a hard drive, power supply or even a mother board, but I wont buy a computer that I cant reload the operating system on. My last XP reload on my main machine was a nightmare. The machine shipped with ME and an XP upgrade certificate. To make a long story short (really hard for me) my XP disk is so old that it is incompatible with Microsoft's new validation system and those are not much fun to work with (now there's a revelation)
Power Home dosen't work on a Mac does it?
A lot of the computers claim that they have XP pro installed along with SP2 and come with a COA but when asked if they come with a recover disc, the answer is usually no. I think that a lot of these machine are coming off off corporate lease and they have had their operating systems maintained by a system mangler over the network, so they don't have recover discs with them. What do you think my chances of getting a recover disk from ole Bill is
Anyway, what I'm really looking for here is some guidance from someone who's been there done that.

I would suggest a refurb from someone like TigerDirect or the like. I bought an HP E-PC 40 for ~$200 with XP Pro from them.
Regarding a rebuild disk, I just backup the drive after I finish set it up.

I have an HP E-PC 40, I bought it for about $70,- and I can recommend it... Booting from USB, CD or any other source is no problem.... If you can buy one? Do it!
