I have had problems on and off with SDM not connecting with my Powerlinc V2 USB.
Sometimes it worked for a week or so, sometimes I couldn't get it to work at all. Here's the problem:
When I right-click on the SDM-icon in the tray and click on "Find PLC" I get the warning "Port not found" (after about a minute).
When I open SDM and type "getport", sometimes I get:
ui:getport
PLC:getport=USB4
uifinished:getport
other times I get:
ui:getport
uifinished:getport
This happens whether Powerhome is running or not.
I rebooted the computer and power-cycled the PDM many times: No change
I uninstalled and erased both other instances of SDM3 from my computer: No change
I re-installed SDM, after erasing the complete Smarthome-folder from the Powerhome-folder: No change
I tried the same but installed version 3-325 in stead of version 3-3-308: No change
I replaced the USB-cable: No change
I haven't been able to get it running for two days now. The other controllers in the system (Redrat3 and W800RF32A) work fine, but are pretty much useless without the INSTEON controller.
Smarthome tells me that it's not the PLC, because if there were a problem with the Powerlinc, it wouldn't be intermittent. It would be dead or it would work.
Any suggestions? I need help.

I would try plugging the PLC into a different USB port and see if it works. I've had intermittent problems with the computer dropping a valid USB port from time to time. I don't think it's PH related or even PLC related, but by changing the USB port you'll get a better idea.

Nadler,
thanks for your reply. You may be right: Yesterday the motherboard of that pc died. I am buying a new computer.
I will let you know how it works with the new pc.
thanks
