Brand new to this forum, and looking at purchasing PowerHome to support the PowerLinc 2414U, which I do not yet have experience with - it's being shipped.

After looking at this post ==> http://www.power-home.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=972&KW=p owerlinc it sounds like PowerHome is a good match. Our automation application is switching 9-acres of existing pasture lighting and facilities control currently using only X-10 control hardware. No other X-10 application s/w in place.

Have chosen PowerLinc 2414U to determine feasability of eventually transitioning over to Insteon switching modules, however budget does not permit instant move to Insteon. Therefore support of 2414U coupled with PowerHome to manage X-10 only is the plan. Comments welcome on this approach.

Also, is the .RTF a source I can review now, or is this info licensed to owners of PowerHome? I do not want to compromise terms of anyone's licensed s/w.

Otherwise, before we purchase PowerHome this is just a sanity check with those forum users more experienced than I (all of you) as to any comments that this should/shouldn't be a reasonable road to go down.

My past experience is (in the 70s that is) developing application s/w for the military for missile guidance telemetry data reduction (via Fortran and various proprietary assembler platforms) therefore a reasonable level of programming does not intimidate me (yet)    As far as X-10 experience is concerned, this dates back to the '80s? when Sears was selling BSR stamped modules, and I think I still have several of those old TRS-80 computer interfaces that can be programmmed for standalone use as satellite controllers stationed remotely w/o need for host i/f. But I digress back to the simpler times.

All commemts appreciated, thank you.

As i'm sure somone else will eventually chime in.
The 2414U is generally not recommended as a good X10 controller. Even though it is advertised as such.

The recommendation i've seen most often is an old CM11A or the X10 powerlinc (1132,i think).

That being said. I use the 2414U for my x10 control as well as insteon and have no problems with it.

As far as the powerhome questions, someone else will probably answer those. Since I am also new to PH.

Allan, I appreciate the sharing of experience you provided.

That info (the CM11A & PowerLinc 1132) is tracking with other input I'm hearing as more favorable as solutions for X-10. I'll probably start out with a 30-day eval on PowerHome and look for any potholes along the way. The 2414U came in today.

thnx again.
