hello ph world

newibe during eval

learning the language - but getting older faster than smarter

mr26a on 2 ecohing f & g to cm11a on 1

all of a sudden I can't dim lights g4 - g11  They go On and Off just fine and my ELK signal analyzer says signal is ok.  g3,g13,g14 & g15 work fine.

g4 (a lamp module) in a different circuit works but dim is real slow

no new signal sucking appliances have been installed

Deano,

Are G3,G13,G14, and G15 lamp modules?

Was this something that was working fine and all of a sudden has stopped?

I can understand dim being a little slow through the MR26A echo.  If you are pressing the dim button continuously, the MR26A will respond with a "DIM" command to PowerHome every so ofter based upon the timeout.  Each recognized "DIM" command will then be echoed to the appropriate controller as a 5% dim.  This will make the dim kind of choppy.  Also, if you are pressing and holding the "DIM", PowerHome may not have a chance to echo until it hears a break in the MR26A receive.

Is there a difference in response between pressing and holding the "DIM" button and pressing and releasing multiple times?

Dave.

Dave,

g1 reserved for macro
g2 reserved for macro
g3 wall switch
g4 lamp mod
g5 lamp mod
g6 wall switch
g7 lamp mod
g8 wall switch
g9 wall switch & outside motion ms13a
g10 dusk/dawn
g11 ms12a & wall switch
g12 dusk/dawn
g13 wall switch
g14 wall switch
g15 wall switch
g16 not used

I can't be certain when this problem started but I have seen these devices work properly in recent past.

I just remembered that PH was dead this morning - well not really dead just a big modal dialog box with a warning. I did a cntl print screen but forgot to copy it from the clipboard before I wiped it out.

I first noticed the problem trying to execute a slow dim macro:

g4
g5
g6
g7
g dim 5
wait 5
jump if g7level > 20, -6,1

the log says it did just what I told it to do but nothing happens. I suspect a hardware problem but I have tried lamp mod 4 in a different circuit with the same cm11a and it works just fine. I have a repeater amplifer and my ELK signal analyzer shows 2 iteration of the signal at nearly 5 volts when the analyzer is plugged into the same outlet as g7. The signal looks the same on the ELK for ON, OFF, and DIM. It turns on & off but no dim - dosen't matter how I press the dim button.

Possible related stuff. I have not fitted mr26a with sophiscated antenna as yet - just increased rat tail to 36 inches. 2 of my 4 HR12a's work from anywhere in the house the other two send garbage even from point blank range. All 4 work with TM751.

I went to mr26a to decrease response time on my motion sensors (I have 8 or 9 of them)and reduce power line traffic. I use f,g,h,i & j but only echo f & g for backwards compatibility.

Thanks for you quick response and all the help.

BTW As if you didn't know, PH is the flexible one and while it my not be at the top of the user friendly list you certainly are.

I'm posting this with Mozilla and it is not being real friendly at the moment either.

Regards,

Dean

Dean,

I am so sorry!!!!! I rely upon an email notification to let me know when messages have been posted to the board and Ive either missed it or did not get it.   Usually I'll reply within 24 hours (sometimes longer over a weekend if Im out), so if you don't get an answer by then, feel free to post again or email me directly.

Since it's been so long, has any of the data changed?  Your slow dim macro should work without a hitch.  I'll give it a try myself when I get home tonight and verify.

The antenna on the MR26A makes a huge difference.  However, I don't think it would contribute to your dimming problems if your PowerHome eventlog is showing the data being received properly.

If your analyzer is showing the X-10 being sent, then it probably is a hardware problem specific to the module.  The only variable that Im not really familiar with is the repeater-amplifier.  The ON and OFF commands are straightforward, but dimming is handled a little differently in that there is no gap between commands for repeated dims.  If I remember correctly, some repeaters may have a problem with dims.  You may want to do a check on dejanews for X-10 dimming through repeaters.

Let me know if any new info is available and sorry for taking so long to respond.

Dave.
