I am using Powerhome solely with Insteon devices so far. I have been unable to figure out the purpose of the "Formulas" category in Powerhome Explorer. I use formulas in Macros and Timed Events. But I always define the formula in the Macro or Timed Event itself.
Is there any point in defining and saving a formula in the Formula category in Powerhome explorer? E.g. how do I use a formula entered in that portion of Powerhome Explorer?
Feel free to point me to a link if there is one that explains this. I didn't find one and didn't see an explanation in the manual.
Thanks for the help.

Look here:
http://www.power-home.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=750&KW=e xplorer+formulas
“The "Formula" section in the PowerHome Explorer is mainly to be used for storing formulas that you would want to reuse. It allows you to type a short ID for referencing from other sections as well as a description of the formula. If you had several macros that used the same formula, rather than typing the formula in each macro or each section of a single macro, you could define the formula once in the "Formula" screen and then just call the formula ID in the macro. It would also be good if the formula logic needed to be changed. You could then just go to the formula itself and change it once rather than hunting it down in multiple macros and changing it.
It also is the only way to define a "Formula" button in the Control Center. This should be changing in the next beta so that you can type a "raw" formula for a button, but in the meantime, a formula button must have the formula defined in the "Formula" section.
HTH,
Dave. “

Thanks Pete! Exactly what I was hoping to understand. One thing I am still not sure about after reviewing that link . . . is the only way to use a defined formula in a macro to use the "Formula Button" command? Or, can I somehow reference the defined formula in a raw formula itself? If I can reference it in the raw formula, do you know the syntax for referencing the ID? I take a look at the help file to see if I see anything in there.

Ah, figured it out. I didn't previously see the formula evaluation commands under Miscellaneous section of the Help file. So, I'm good to go. Thanks again.
