Has anyone here tried connecting PH to their Elk m1G using
a device like this:
http://www.provantage.com/startech-netrs2321e~7STR90KT.htm
It would be nice to be able to run PH on a laptop in my
bedroom and keep my Elk in the wiring closet downstairs.
If you have used one of these before, can you tell me a bit
about how they work? Do I need to get two of them?

At the suggestion of someone at Cocoontech, I installed
an M1XEP tonight. It seems to be working fine. I can
connect to it using ElkRP, and I can pull up the web
pages served by it and control the system. But when I
try to connect PH to it, it does not work. I changed the
Setup->Controllers and changed my Elk from a Mlk M1 Gold
(Serial) to an Elk M1 Gold (Ethernet). I then went to
the settings on that same page and entered in the IP
address and port that the XEP is running on. Well, every
time I try to connect to it with PH, I get an error
message: "The Elk M1 ELK Zone Status Request did not
return properly. Commands will not be transmitted."
So, what did I miss?

Never mind. *sigh*

You have to use the non-secure port (after enabling it of
course).
