Hi,

I am about to install an ELK M1 in my observatory for alarm / control. Having just discovered PH it seems ideal to interface with the ELK over ethernet.

I need a solution to allow me to control an IR product and possibly learn IR also.

Is the recommended product ? I read in another forum post that global cache support is coming but that it may be a while.

Thanks
Chris

USB-UIRT would be a device to look into. I use two of them w/ PH. I can control up to 6 zones (up to 6 seperate devices)

I also use two of them (just so I can get them in IR line of sight for my applications). I also have an Elk. I have
written PH functions to turn my TV and stereo off when I arm my Elk to away mode over IR. I have also written PH macros to
turn lights on and off using my Harmony remote control. You name it, it can be done.

Ok so, what are appropriate IR controllers? I've heard about USB-UIRT. But, can I use my USB IR reciever that came with my WMC remote? If so, how do I set it up as a controller?

sorry for the noob question.
Thanks.

I don't think PH supports that type (WMC) of IR controller (reciever/sender).

Gibbage was likely meaning that you could use any remote control (that sends out an IR light source) and point it at the IR reciever (in this case the USB-UIRT). Then, from within PowerHome you could set up a trigger to fire a macro (turn on a light, etc) whenever a specific incoming IR signal is seen by the USB-UIRT which reports this information to Powerhome ....it is set up as a controller within PowerHome.

Hope this Helps

I just bought the USB=UIRT my self and it is well worth the money, without a doubt. I did see that he is out of stock for a bit though.

What about long distances between Home Automation Computer for IR? My Home Automation Server is mounted in my garage with my home Theatre equipment being 40' away. IR control is low on my priority list... I figured I'd ask since the thread was fresh.
Thanks.

40' is a long way for a USB cable. However, the USB-UIRT offers zone IR control. There is an 1/8" jack on the back that can be hooked up to an IR emitter. I'm pretty sure you can string those for quite some distance.

Global Cache

Kind of pricey, but the GC-100 offers 3 IR ports and an Rs-
232. PH already supports the GC-100 as a controller for
the IR ports and will support the RS-232 in the next
release.

It connects to your PH box via LAN.

Thanks...So, I do have to go buy some new H/w.

Is there a list somewhere of appropriate IR controllers that works? I couldn't find a compatability list in the manual, or searching, here.

Thanks.
