Greetings all!

I just started with Insteon(so call me a newbee), I've installed Insteon keypadlinc's and switchlinc dimmers though out my house. After a few hours\days with houselinc I went searching for better software. I found PH and downloaded it to try it. After running PH I reverted back to HouseLinc (temporarily...PH learning curve!), I noticed that none of my devices were responding to links.

I tried with HouseLinc to synchronizing, factory reset, manually recreating links, and software links. Nothing seems to get the links to work. I did find that if I auto link the device again it would start responding.

I have quite a few devices in my house ...some behind furniture...It is a pain to have to run around and re-link everything every time I work on PH.

I am in a situation where I need to Play with PH and still be able to run HouseLinc , Until I have PH up and fully running. (Learning curve!)

So...Could anyone shed some light on what I did wrong in PH to kill all my Links.

Here is my setup:
PowerLink Dual-Band USB Modem 2413UH (Configured as a 2414U in PH)
Multiple KeyPadLinc's and SwitchLinc's
2 Access Point (Wireless Phase Couplers) 2443's
PC running windows 7
HouseLink 2 running in a VM under windows XP SP3
PowerHome running in a VM under windows XP SP3 (not at the same time)

After shutting down HouseLink VM I started the PowerHome in a new VM and ran the wizard. Set the Controller to 2414U under Insteon and appropriate com port. Next under Devices\Insteon\ I Scanned PLC/PLM. From their I just started to familiarize myself with PH, poked around, renamed a couple of things (NEW SPIDER 1 to Hall Keypad....). Then closed PH and exited the VM, later I noticed that my links were not working and started HouseLink to investigate.

Any incite would be greatly appreciated.

First thing is what you defined the powerline controller to PowerHome2. You indicated as a 2414U which is a PLC, NOT a PLM. A PLC has a very different interface than a PLM. Unless that was just a finger check the PLM needs to be defined as a 2412 PLM.

I run the same HouseLinc2 Enabled PLM with PH2 and HouseLinc2 (not at the same time of course) but you have to be very careful as links established by one product will not be known by the other product. I think you will find PowerHome2 has more function than HouseLinc2 but has a larger learning curve as HouseLinc2 is targeted for users who have little knowledge of Insteon architecture or programming skills.

Hi Lee,

Thank you for the info.

I did a complete reinstall from the ground up in a new VM.

I entered the 2412U in the wizard then checked it in the Insteon Explorer it shows up as follows:

ID         &nbs p;- PLMCRLR1
Description - PLM CONTROLLER
==========================================
Device Type - 2414U PowerLinc Controller
Firmware    - 146
IEngine     - Legacy

I did this twice to verify. I does say PLM Controller but shows the 2414U PowerLinc under device type on the second panel. Is this normal? Do I just change the Device Type in the second panel to 2412U?

I also lost all my links in HouseLinc2 untill I did an auto link for all the devices again.

Use PowerHome Explorer Setup/Controllers and see what it lists as the controller Type. I did not use the Wizard to define my controller. It is listed as Controller Type Insteon PLM under PowerHome Explorer. Under Insteon Explorer it is listed as a 2412SH - PowerLinc Modem Serial HL2. I am sure that is what I selected as I said, I did not use the Wizard.

I believe starting from scratch PowerHome will clear the PLM so it has a clean device to start with. Just one of the things to live with when trying to share the same PLM. Once defined to PH2 it does not get cleared after that unless explicitly cleared and rebuilt.

Thank's for the help Lee.

This seems to have got me on my way!

It seems the wizard see's the 2413UH as a 2414U not a 2412SH.
