Hello All,

I have just started to get my feet wet in home automation
and I have some questions that I am hoping the experts
here can help me out. (I apologize if this is the wrong
location to post this)

1) I have installed several insteon devices in PH, and I
can control them with PH through the insteon explorer
control button only. The commands issued by the command
centre buttons and the status screen do not send commands
through the PLM, therefore, the switches do not respond.
Any thoughts on this?
2) I have a 3way switch setup for my hall lights. I
have the two switches linked by pressing the buttons on
each of the switches, however, when I command one of the
switches through PH, it only toggles the one switch, not
both. Is this normal?

Thanks for your help.

flaelin,

Welcome to PowerHome!

1. Make sure you set the "Controller" column for each
Insteon device. This should get you going for the
screens other than the Insteon Explorer.

2. This is the way its supposed to work (Insteon
protocol). To achieve the desired result, create links
with the PLM as the controller of both switches (same PLM
group number), define a PLM group for that group number,
then control the PLM group rather than the device
directly.

Hope this helps,

Dave.

Thanks for the help!

Another question, everything was working fine last night,
but when I woke up this morning and manually turned on the
light switches I noticed that the status in PH did not
update, they were still indicated as "Off". I tried
turning on "Status Scan" and it is only polling two
switches not the others that I am having problems with. I
also checked if I can control the lights from PH and it
does work and the status changes accordingly.

I have found that if you link your switch with PLM and use manually ON/OFF (only for those gives problem because some of switches will work fine, first put your switch in link mode and go to PLM and press the set button) Ph catches the correct status all the time.

Sorry for all the newbie questions, but I was wondering if
PH supports the Fanlinc module (2475f)?

I dont have the Fanlinc but if device is not supported directly , then most likely still be able to control it by ph_insteonwithretext.

if you have install the v 2.1.4 then look into the link

flaelin,

Concerning the "Status Scan" only polling two devices...check the "Devices" tab of Insteon explorer and see if any of your devices have a reddish background on the "Clear Failed" column. If so, then place a check mark and clear the failure. This column will be shaded when PowerHome fails to communicate with a device 5 (or whatever value you've used for "Max Failures") time consecutively. It this is happening often, this is a sign of communication issues and you may need FilterLincs, to relocate your PLM, or Access Points. Check the communication reports on the "Reports" tab to see what your comms look like.

The Fanlinc should work without issue. PowerHome does not have an Insteon Type for this predefined but if you get one and auto-discover it, it will create an appropriate Insteon type for you. You'll probably need to fine tune the controller and responder groups but it should work like any other Insteon device.

Dave.
