Hi All,

I see that PowerHome supports multiple CM11A's.

I live in Australia and have a home with a 3 Phase 240 Volt 50Hz system. I need to couple the x10 signals between phases.

Is it practical to have a dedicated CM11A for each phase?

This may seem a bit cumbersome but much cheaper than phase couplers or active repeaters etc...

What does everyone think?

Regards

Glenn

I don't think I've ever heard of anyone doing this.

Do you have any two-phase appliances that could couple the two when they are running? That is one potential problem I can think of.

Oh yeah, welcome to the forum!

Hi Tony,

I don't have any two or three phase appliances hence no coupling problems - the reason I have a three phase system is because I have a long run from the road to my house and this reduces voltage drop.

So one circuit is lights and there are two discrete power circuits. Therefore all phases are quite distinct.

Would Powerhome be happy talking to multiple CM11A's within a single session? I'd attach three, one per phase using individual com ports??

Thanks again for the welcome

regards

Glenn

Dave would have to answer for sure, but it looks like PH should support this just fine. If you look at the X10 Unit Code screen shot, you can see the drop-down for the controller number.

Maybe you can find two coupler/repeaters for less money?

Glenn,

Welcome to the forum!

PowerHome should have no problem talking to 3 CM11A's. The only thing you would need to be concerned about would be the same X-10 command being received by more than 1 controller. This would really only be a concern with dim and bright commands (the PowerHome level would not be accurate). However, in your case, it sounds as if all 3 controllers would be completely separate so you should have absolutely no problems (you can have up to 5 X-10 controllers, the next beta will allow even more).

Let us know how it goes.

Dave.

Hi All,

Been gathering different bits and pieces and now have three controllers running on three different phases.

Works great so I can now control lights and power on seperate phases with no worries!

The only problem I had was getting 3 serial ports (4 counting the red rat 2). Solved this with 2 USB to serial convertors (prolific 2302 based).

Powerhome and the CM11A's (actually labelled CM12AU down here) work really well together.

Thanks
Glenn

Glenn,

Glad to hear all is working well. Getting extra serial ports can sometimes be tricky. In my first PH machine, only an ISA based expansion card would work (the PCI board I bought wouldnt work at all). When I upgraded my machine, the ISA board just would not work. I remembered my PCI card that I threw in my spare parts box, dragged it out, and it worked just fine...go figure.

Keep us posted if you come up with anything new.

Dave
