A question about how device status gets updated on external (non-PH initiated) commands.
X-10 device status works well in PH. When I hit a button on my x10 keypad to turn a device on and look at PH I can see that PH knows the device is on. This is great considering it is not a two way device - PH must be listing for the x10 'on' commands coming through PLC and using to set internal device status.
But it does not work the same with Insteon? Although there are Insteon events received by PLC and PH for the Insteon device (can see in log), PH does not know when the device is on or off (again only when externally controlled by an Insteon Controller). It works ok and shows correct status when PH turns the Insteon device on and off.
Am I missing something here?
Al

Unless you link the Insteon switch to the PLC, it does not signal when controlling a local load.

I'm unable to add a LampLinc module as a controller so am I correct in assuming there's no way to track the status of one of these when switched locally?

By locally do you mean using the current sensing feature to turn the lamp on by using the lamps own switch?

The switches are linked to the PLC. I see a message in the event log when switch is changed externally. There was no message until I did the linking. Still PH does not seem to know the status of that switch.

Yes, using the current sensing feature doesn't seem to generate an Insteon message from the LampLinc. After I initially posted I used the "Replace Device" utility to get PowerHome to make the LampLinc a controller with the PowerLinc as the responder but that didn't seem to help.
Not a big deal - I just like my remote switch indicators to match the actual device status!

Not a big fan of local control because there is too much chance somebody will leave the switch off and disable the automation link. How about putting a tabletop controller to control the lamp in that location?

LampLinc's and ApplianceLincs do not report local load control. Keep in mind that this is an Insteon limitation (rather these specific devices do not support being set as a controller) and not a PowerHome limitation.

For my particlar case, I am not concerned with LampLincs and ApplianceLincs. The thread got a bit off topic (but still useful to clarify these local control issues!).
I am concerned about switches (which are set up as controllers).
You switch the switch locally, it sends a message to PLC (because it is linked to it), but PH does not update the switch's status. This was my original question and I still don't understand why this does not work.

Al,
Definately try the "Clear PLC Database" followed by the "Add ID's to PLC" buttons from the "Insteon DM Control" (right-click in the Explorer on the Insteon Units screen).
I'll bet this will take care of your problems.
Let me know,
Dave.

Great. It fixed the status problem. Now I see the Group Broadcast message in log and PH knows when the switches are on/off. Excellent! A bit strange but glad it works now. Now onto triggers (see other posting).

Thats great news Al. Anytime you get something flaky with Insteon communications not seeming to work, give this a try and it'll probably take care of it.

Definetly something needed in the Insteon docs!

Definately. The next version will have this included in the phinsteon.rtf.
