PH never seems to run for more than a few hours before it stops working (insteon wont respond). I reboot and the SDM3 doesn't seem to be connecting, and PH keeps saying it is not connected to the PLC.

I have version 202 of SDM3 installed btw.

Any suggestions?

Where can I get v19?

Has anyone been able to get SDM somewhat stable? It is not really useable if it goes down after 3 hours every time.

I've actually been running 202 for a while now.

I'll poke around; I should have the older ones.

I'm not sure if that will fix the problem.

When I come back to my computer, it seems that there are several SDM3.EXE's running, and none of them can communicate to the PLC. I usually have to reboot and pull the PLC out of the wall and plug in again.

Is there a troubleshooting guide out there?

I'm not aware of an SDM troubleshooting guide beyond Dave.

The only time I have seen more than one SDM running was immediately after the upgrade to 202.

Maybe this is an artifact of the SDM relaunch that PH does, mentioned by Dave previously?

Do you have a link? I'm at wits end. Also, how the heck do you turn off those ANNOYING auto messages?

Fasttimes,

Are you running the latest patched version of PowerHome (1.03.4.7-4)? I see you're running the 202 version of the SDM. You should probably go ahead and uninstall all other SDM versions and manually delete their directories if they are present. You should only have the "SmartHome/Device Manager" directory beneath the PowerHome directory.

Once you're cleaned out the other SDM's, make sure that PowerHome and the SDM are shutdown. Verify they arent running using the task manager. Then, navigate to the PowerHome SDM directory using Windows Explorer and manually launch the SDM. You should see the icon appear in the tray. Click on it and verify that the SDM is 202 and that it able to connect to the PLC. If everything is OK, then launch PowerHome. This should cleanup any multiple instances getting launched.

You can test if PowerHome is correctly autolaunching the SDM by forcing the SDM closed once PowerHome is running. The next time and Insteon command is issued, PowerHome should automatically relaunch the SDM. You may get a message that communications failed but it should still launch.

If we can get past this, the next step will probably be to email me a copy of your SDM log after PowerHome has been running a typical session for 15 minutes so I can analyze the traffic. One common theme that I see a lot of with people having the SDM lock up frequently seems to center around X10 traffic. It seems that the more X10 traffic the PLC is sending, the faster it will lock up.

Let me know,

Dave.

I'm running the patched version, and will send you the log. BTW, I don't think I'm using X10 stuff right now.

Dave,

I moved the PLC from one outlet to another, and I'm not having the problem of getting the "insteon wont respond" message (much) anymore, however PH only seems to run for a few hours and then won't control any insteon devices (or if it does, it takes several minutes to send the command).

I just turned off all x-10 checkboxes in the setup and restarted PH. I will send the log the next time the next time I have a problem.

btw, is there a way to clear the log?

You can use either the ph_trimeventlog or ph_exporteventlog functions to clear old records from the eventlog. Typically, you would create a daily timed event to run shortly after midnight to clear out the old entries. I usually use a value of 2 in the trimeventlog function so that I keep what has happened since midnight as well as the previous day.

Keep me posted on SDM testing. I hear another version is supposed to be released real soon so maybe it will get better.

Dave.

Dave,

I'm still having the problem of PH not responding. I emailed you a log a few days ago, did you get it?

Fasttimes,

Yes, I did receive it. Ive been looking at the logs for Todd and Jim and havent had a chance to open yours yet.

Im going to be writing up my findings on their logs and I'll start on yours after that. It may be tonight or tomorrow.

Dave.

Fasttimes,

Ok, I checked out the file you sent me and it doesnt really tell me too much. What I got was a text export of the eventlog.

After reading your email and the messages posted here, I need to clarify what your problem is. In your email, you stated that PowerHome would be running but after a few hours, it would no longer fire timed events or manual commands. Is it just Insteon commands that are not firing or does all execution processing seem to lock up?

If all execution seems to lock up, then this would point us away from the SDM and I need to be looking at something else. If it's just Insteon commands that are not responding, then we still need to look at the SDM.

If you're interested, I can remote into your machine and look at your setup and see if I can spot anything out of the ordinary. If this interests you, send me an email.

Otherwise, I would need you to email me your pwrhome.db database file and your SDM logs. With these two pieces of info, I might be able to see if anything unusual is going on.

Let me know,

Dave.
