I just finished my 30 day evaluation and paid the piper for PH and would like to setup TTS now.
I have enabled TTS and set the voice to Microsoft Mary but am at a loss as to how to get PH to say anything. How do I go about getting PH to announce a device change or Macro trigger like "outside lites off". I am so used to how my ELK M1 does this by simple menus that PH is very confusing to me.
I am not a programmer and don't really want to became one either. I just want things to be user friendly and intuitive. I hope that this does not require I learn complicated formulas and such. I am using PH mostly as an interface to my ELK system. I would like to see PH become more of a point and click interfaced and less programmer oriented. I know that some more complicated things may require this type of input but the average user just wants to KISS.
Thanks,Dave

I don't know anything about ELK so have no idea how it works with PH, but you can make PH talk using a formula like this:

ph_tts("Hello World")

You can play with it in the Multi-editor. Sometimes you have to play with the phonetic spelling to get the word to sound right. I used MS Mary for awhile, but found "her" hard to understand sometimes. I now us "KATE" and she is crystal clear.

Well I figured out how to get a macro to speak by adding another line at the bottom and then putting the ph_tts command in it.
This is just so different for me. I guess I will need to read up and try to wrap my brain around all the ph_ commands or scripts to get the full benefits out of PH.
Thanks,Dave

Yes, you will. ;) Even if you just dip your toe in the water, there are still a lot of cool things that can be done.

Dave,

Yeah this is a little confusing.. ok maybe a lot confusing at first but as you play you will see you can get all sorts of stuff done and not know a damn thing about programming. I had actually given up on PH, at the start. I tried.. and tried and the guys here are great and VERY patient... but I just couldn't get a grip of it. I then said thank you to everyone and opted the leave and find something else.
I was back a couple days later I installed and uninstalled SO many different software packages that all claim big things. What I found was either they crashed... a lot, or simply were not what the author had hyped it up to be. PH is everything any of those want to be, plus endless everything else!
I am not a programmer so can't make use of the ability to use scripting languages and stuff outside of PH. But I am slowly getting the hang of the built in stuff. It is amazing all on it's own what you can do. If I get stuck... I post it here and someone answers within hours (sometimes minutes).

Keep banging away!

Brian

Dave,

You can also use the "TTS" macro command in addition to the PH TTS functions. While the term "macro" may sound intimidating, it's really nothing more than a sequence of individual commands. Alot of basic control is available as macro commands and require very little effort to get working...most of the commands just require dropdown box selections.

But, with formulas, you can really achieve alot of control and power. If you can use a calculator, then it won't take long to come up to speed on formulas since they are really just math.

Just post a message on the forum if you have any problems or questions. Someone (or even I) will be sure to supply an answer.

Dave.
