Is there a way to update the LED of a button on a keypadlinc ON/OFF? Not the Main button 2-8. Perhaps Insteon Raw Commands or PH code?

I have a couple instances I may want to do this if possible. I setup some buttons on keypads to control winamp. Play/Stop Toggle, Next,Previous etc. I'd like the status of all of the keypad "Play" buttons to reflect the actual state ON/OFF. I guess I could use traditional insteon cross linking to accomplish this.

Also I would like to update Garage Door Status Open/Close (On/OFF) via Trigger and some I/O hardware. Any recomendations on I/O other than the EZIO.

Thanks

Regarding the I/O, what about an X10-RF receiver and a DS10A? You could also hack a contact into a ControLinc.

Is there something wrong with the EZIO?

I bought an EZIO 2x4 from Smarthome when I first got started with Insteon. Smart Home neglected to mention you needed a PLC to use the software to set the Relay to Momentary Contact and change timer values. Smarthome advertised it as a Garage Door solution and misled buyers to its ability. I complained about that. I just took a quick look and they have since updated the page for the EZIO.

So I ordered a PLC even after reading all of the unhappy PLC users in the Forums. The software on their site wouldn't work with it. Support was absolutely no help other than to tell me to call simplehomenet. After contacting them I was told I was sold an EZIO with old firmware and was directed to the software on their site. This let me set settings but the thing kept corrupting the link table and was very unreliable. After talking to simplehomenet again they said yeah that happens when you apply change some settings after you create links. SimpleHomeNet did offer to update the firmware on it for me, but by the time I received my PLC and would have got the EZIO back I would have been over my 30day no hassle return from SmartHome.

The EZIO was $149.99 at the time and I didn't feel I was getting my money worth and I STILL would need software to update the keypad status of the Overhead Door. If I were to buy it again I'd buy it direct from the manufacturer not SmartHome.

To make things even better the RMA was a PITA. The "New Guy" at Smarthome messed it up and did an exchange instead of a return. So I paid to send the one I had back and they sent me another. I had to call and get them to create a return label for the 2nd one. I wasn't going to pay to send that back too when I wanted my money back in the first place.

I'd rather not repeat the whole experience. Maybe by now simplehomenet has fixed their issues... Not willing at this point to try again.

I have to say my Insteon experience in all has been better than I initially I feared. I’d say ALL of the issues I have had have been to Firmware changes made and bad documentation of these changes. Their seems to be disconnect from Smarthome’s “Tech Support” and “Development” departments. I exchanged a bunch of keypad that didn’t need to be because of a change in the firmware and Tech Support didn’t know about it.
Any way I wouldn’t do an Insteon implementation without Power-Home! Dave is great and the community is helpful.

I use Tony's method on my garage door. Sense with x10rf and operate with an x10 Universal module.

On the KPL buttons, you have to create a group in Insteon Explorer for each button and link each to the PLC. You turn them on/off with ph_insteongroup. There is a thread on the forum that discusses this. I searched but couldn't find it. I think 'nadler' has a KPL that controls iTunes as well as his stereo.

I tried using a KPL for controlling WinAmp but went with a touchscreen and eHomeCreations because the family never used the KPL. It wasn't as user friendly.

As for changing the state of the KPL LED's, take a look at the following threads:
