I have run an Automated Home for over 20 years, starting with X10 and then migrating totally to Insteon. I've been using the SmartHome HouseLinc (was a beta tester) for several years, but the poor SW has been abandoned with no updates for 16? months now.

Just found PowerHome. Have used it for about 4 days and LOVE IT! But, even as a moderately experienced programmer am having a hard time getting started with Insteon control!

Able to do straight stuff with no problem, BUT for the life of me I cannot figure out how to sense and control the buttons on a keypad (KPL).

Would anyone be so kind as to advise (with an example) how to read the button status of a (SmartHome 2486 8-button) KPL keypad and how to write it? I want the keypad buttons to track the state of their associated lighting circuits, and can't do it yet.

Also how does one read an Insteon switch brightness level. I think I can set it OK, but can't figure out how to read it.

Thanks all.

I look forward to being a productive memmber of this forum for years. I'm retired now and traveling and it has been my goal for several years to be able to sense and control my home from anywhere in the world. I'll have two live web cam feeds up in a week on my home server web site and then want to work on sensing and controlling the house temp as well as reading freezer temps (we lost $1000 worth of frozen meat on last trip when power failed and we didn't know it. If we can sense, at least we can have a neighbor address the issues.)

Welcome aboard!

I can't comment on the KPL's, as I have none, but I know there is a whole tab in the Insteon Explorer devoted to them.

Insteon levels can be retrieved two ways: ph_getinsteonlevel and ph_getinsteonlevelrt. The last one is real-time (as in current level, not what is stored in the database from the last change/update).

TonyNo - thanks.

Got it going with Dave's awesome help, using the ph_insteongroupcu("GROUP ID","DVC NAME",IOFF) {or ION} commands after setting up groups in the PLC that linked to these KPL buttons.

Finally, for the first time ever, my keypad buttons actually track light states!
