Ok, I have my insteon links working now it is on to programing...

I did end up gettingt have the w800rf32a and I am waiting on some window/door sensors I bought from ebay. How does the addressing and extended messages work? I have read it usually links with the base station but I dont have one of those, and dont want one I just want to use PH. And what exactly is an "extended message"? Im sure someone has done this.

Thanks

Todd,

The "extended" X10 RF commands are commonly referred to as the security commands. They are synonymous.

When a security device transmits an RF code, it is a pair of numbers from 0 to 255. Either the first or second number is variable and changes everytime you change the batteries. The other number is usually fixed based upon the type of device. I don't have any in front of me to confirm which number is which.

You don't need the base station...just PH and the W800RF32A.

To set this up, it's best to powerup your device and monitor the real-time eventlog in the PowerHome Status screen. When you trigger the device, you'll see what the two numbers are. You'll basically want to then create a trigger based upon the two numbers. Every device will usually have a unique set of numbers (one of them are random when you first install batteries. Change the batteries, and one of the numbers will change).

Once you get your equipment, it's really pretty easy.

Dave.

FYI Dave, I got my sensors in and didn't know how easy it was going to be to set them up...

For anyone else looking to implement a simple door alarm or other extended rf soloution there are extended rf triggers set up, all you have to do is tell PH what device ID and what trigger ID number (message ex. triggered, batt low ect.. but these are numbers and you have to know what the trigger ID will be... there must be a list somewhere) to trigger on and then have it run a macro and do something!!!! Im using the w800rf32a which receives all these events.

I am going to follow this thread closely because I have been thinking of buying a w800rf32a later this year. Primairly for securing doors, windows etc. e.g. if the gardendoor is open, then my shutters should not be allowed to close... stuff like that!

The easiest way to find out what the X10 security sensors transmit is to use the utility that comes with the w800. Just trigger the sensor and note the two codes sent. One is a "random" address (set when batteries installed) and the second is open (4/5)/closed (132/133).
