Hi to all.

Now that Dave succeded in fixing my non working vbscripts, I can now keep working on some kind of interface between PowerHome and a 1-wire temperature sensor network.

I have seen people around here that are trying to do so, and I am checking if anyone made it work using a 9097U interface.

I have a few ideas of mine that should make it fairly easy and really cheap to at least get the figures from one side of the 1-wire thing to powerhome. Once the numbers are into PH, users can do whatever they want.

I'd like to know if my findings would be worth publishing. Not that I want to keep it a secret, but if I am to make it known to others, I would prefer to prepare some kind of "paper" describing the steps I took.

For people not knowing what a 1-wire temperature sensor is, they can check at .Maxim IC.

In short, they use CAT3 wire (regular phone cabling), cost about 2$ and give +/- 0.5 degree of precision (DS18B20). The interface between the network and the rs-232 port is about 30$, and so is also the USB version. You can daisy chain a lot of them per network (probably more than you need!).

All that mean that they are dirt cheap and easy to install: less than 100 bucks for something like 10 sensors, interface and cabling included!

So if more than 2 or 3 persons are interrested, let me know, and I'll prepare some kind of manual that will explain what I did.

I dont intend to sell anything. I already got a job. Just that I used the forum a lot, and would like to give back to the community.

I think you will find a number of people interested in a temperature sensor network (including me).

I know just about NOTHING concerning "1-wire" devices, but aren't there more than just temperature sensors? If so, a wider interest would be temp sensors plus XXX and YYY sensors all reporting back to PH. How you get them into PH will be of most interest.

Anyway, once you get this working, many of us (uncluding me) would love to see your "how to". Many times these guides spark new ideas/applications.

Again, anyone considering a 1-wire solution should check out P. Anderson's boards - I use this one. I use a custom VB app to poll the board and pass the results back to PH using windows messaging. I've been using this solution for over 2 years.

The above board costs $60 - a little pricy for a 1-wire solution, but it also has 4 relays, 4 inputs, and provides a simple interface. It also comes with one temperature sensor.

See the site, or some of my other posts for more info.

Hi to everyone.

I have taken the time to describe as much as I can the way I have interfaced my 1-wire temperature sensors to powerhome.

It's a nice document, with pictures and all, a PDF file of 2.2 megs.

You can retreive the first draft from my site at:

Let me know what you think and if I might have forgot something.

Thanks

Spou -

WOW! Nice job and EXTREMELY helpful. I have been wanting to monitor my two freezer's temp while we travel (we lost one freezer last year and by the time we got back the decayed meat was sooooooooooo rank that we had to throw the freezer out as it was beyond re-useability!).

Your tutorial, code ideas, etc will be invaluable in helping me set something up.

Merci beaucoup!
