From time to time my Elk loses its ability to control my Insteon devices. In the past when this has happened I have connectd my laptop to the M1XSP using a null modem cable, and via PowerHome, re-sent all my Insteon addresses to the M1XSP. Control of my Insteon devices was restored.

It has been a number of months since I have used this procedure. Today, I can't seem to get my PH on my laptop to communicate with the M1XSP. I have tried the laptop's built in Com1 port as well as a USB to COM adapter on Com5 without success. I am using the same cable that has worked with this same laptop in the past. This time I went ahead and updated the M1XSP firmware to vers. 50.1.4 beforehand. I don't know if that is the culprit or not. I am running PH vers. 2.1b (without a PLC attached) and have unchecked "controller connected" from the file menu. I don't recall what version of PH I was on when I last connected successfully. I know when I first got started several years I was using the standalone elkinsteon.exe program, so I tried that exe but without success. The Elk release notes refer to a new version of the "Elk Insteon Device loader" which I cannot seem to find.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what to try next?

TIA,

Mike

Try rebooting the XSP right before connecting or while connected to PH. I have noticed that my working XSP sometimes doesn't want to talk to PH after it has been talking to the PLC for a while.

Rebooting worked. Silly me not to think of it.

Thanks very much, Wayne!
